Lolita is one of the greatest novels of all time. Seriously. Go buy it. It's a little wimpy during the second half, I admit, but the whole first section and the tail end make for some brilliant literature. Kubrick's version is very good, mainly because of Sellers, but the damn thing is pushing three hours long. Much like the novel, a lot could have been cut to result in a better work overall. Lyne's version is faithful to the events of the book, but it misses completely the subtle complexity of its main character's psychological condition.
