CONFESSIONS ABOUT MY RARE METABOLIC DISORDER CALLED TMAU- - PART TWO

My name is Rummel Pinera. I’m from the Philippines. This is about my confessions that deal with my metabolic disorder called TMAU. It is a rare health problem that makes the person who has it become entangled with smelly breath and body odor. Some people who have TMAU have strong scents. Others have mild scents. I have the mild form of TMAU or trimethylaminuria. But all persons who are afflicted with this malady do feel and sense the following signs every time they are in a public place or in a spot filled with huge crowds : lots of sniffing and/or rubbing of noses, sneezes, and wild coughs from the people that they are interacting with or just near them. Hence, many TMAU people are usually home-bound. I do have TMAU, but I live a normal life. I'm not home-bound and I do interact regularly and openly to the community. Sometimes my sweats smell like sulfur or gunpowder when I'm perspiring profusely. And when I.m really tense or nervous, I would sometimes release "soy-sauce and acidic scents" from my body. Scientists and medical doctors don't consider TMAU (just like in the case of agoraphobia) as an illness. People who have TMAU are really healthy. It's just that such malady does bring some psychological dilemmas to those who have such problem. The problem is also genetic.According to Wikipedia, " Trimethylaminuria (TMAU), also known as fish odor syndrome or fish malodor syndrome,[1], is a rare metabolic disorder that causes a defect in the normal production of the enzyme Flavin containing monooxygenase 3 (FMO3).[2][3] When FMO3 is not working correctly or if not enough enzyme is produced, the body loses the ability to properly break down trimethylamine (TMA) from precursor compounds in food digestion into trimethylamine oxide (TMAO) through a process called N-oxygenation. Trimethylamine then builds up and is released in the person's sweat, urine, and breath, giving off a strong fishy odor or strong body odor." But not all TMAU people have fishy odor. Some TMAU people have mild sulfur-like scents, while others have varying acidic odors. Some TMAU people also have soy-sauce scent or odor. The Wikipedia further states that: "Trimethylamine builds up in the body of patients with trimethylaminuria. The trimethylamine gets released in the person's sweat, urine, reproductive fluids, and breath, giving off a strong fishy or body odor. Some people with trimethylaminuria have a strong odor all the time, but most have a moderate smell that varies in intensity over time. Individuals with this condition do not have any physical symptoms, and typically appear healthy."There is no effective cure yet to this malady. Wikipedia has this set of ways of controlling the odor caused by TMAU:"1.) Avoiding foods such as eggs, legumes, certain meats, fish, and other foods that contain choline, carnitine, nitrogen, and sulfur.2.) Taking low doses of antibiotics such as neomycin and metronidazole[6] in order to reduce the amount of bacteria in the gut.3.) Using slightly acidic detergent with a pH between 5.5 and 6.5.Additionally, at least one study has suggested that daily intake of the supplements activated with charcoal and/or copper chlorophyllin may improve the quality of life of individuals afflicted with TMAU by helping their bodies to oxidize and convert TMA to the odorless N-o xide (TMAO) metabolite. Study participants experienced subjective reduction in odor as well as objective reduction in TMA and increase in TMAO concentration measured in their urine. The study's success rates varied."I can say that such prescribed means do produce good results. I have used such techniques and I still subscribe to such methods up to the present time. Such methods do help me in managing effectively the problem called TMAU.I once have agoraphobia during my adolescence. But I have already succeeded in deleting such agoraphobia during my mid-twenties. I have started having the symptoms of mild TMAU during my early twenties. It was only when I've reached my thirties that a doctor confirmed to me that I have TMAU. I'm dealing with TMAU in an optimistic way. Humans use scientific methodology and knowledge to effectively cope with the problems of this world. I do trust humanity's use of science as one of the means to live in harmony with nature and universe. And I use the logic of science to cope with the problem called TMAU. I do have strong faith in the LORD GOD. Such strong faith keeps me going in a world that sometimes doesn't understand this malady called TMAU. Such faith gives me enough courage to believe in my own inner self-confidence to do my duties and responsibilities as a human being. I hope that someday science and religion can work harmoniously together in the field of genetic research, so that effective cures can be worked out for the maladies in and upon certain human genes.

She thinks that he might have a problem with current food, so he's currently on medication (like Metronidazole) and switch to this special dog food. I was wondering if he can actually eat the new food because he had a problem with Blue Buffalo brand when we tried to switch. But he liked it! I hope he can get well soon with them! ターボのお腹の調子が悪く、便意を抑えきれずに夜中に私たち

What is inflammatory bowel disease?
Inflammatory bowel disease is the name of a group of disorders that cause the intestines to become inflamed (red and swollen). The inflammation lasts a long time and usually comes back over and over again. More than 600,000 Americans have some kind of inflammatory bowel disease every year. If you have inflammatory bowel disease, you may have abdominal cramps and pain, diarrhea, weight loss and bleeding from your intestines. Two kinds of inflammatory bowel disease are Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. Crohn's disease usually causes ulcers (open sores) along the length of the small and large intestines. Crohn's disease either spares the rectum, or causes inflammation or infection with drainage around the rectum. Ulcerative colitis usually causes ulcers in the lower part of the large intestine, often starting at the rectum.
What causes inflammatory bowel disease? The exact causes are unknown. The disease may be caused by a germ or by an immune system problem. You don't have to worry about your family members catching the disease from you, because it isn't contagious. However, inflammatory bowel disease does seem to be hereditary (runs in your family).
How is inflammatory bowel disease diagnosed? Based on your symptoms, your doctor may suspect that you have Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis. Your bowel movements may be tested for germs and the presence of blood. Your doctor will probably look inside your intestines with a sigmoidoscope or a colonoscope. In these procedures, the doctor uses a narrow flexible tube to look directly inside your intestines. Special x-rays may be helpful in diagnosing this illness.
How is inflammatory bowel disease treated? The best thing you can do is take good care of yourself. It's important to eat a healthy diet. Depending on your symptoms, your doctor may ask you to cut down on the amount of fiber or dairy products in your diet. In addition to eating well, you need to get enough rest. It's also important that you learn to manage the stress in your life. When you become overly upset by things that happen at home or at work, your intestinal problems can get worse.

You will most likely be treated by a team of doctors. This team may include your family physician, a gastroenterologist (a specialist in stomach and intestinal disorders) and, possibly, a surgeon. http://www.emfnews.org/qlinks.html

The goal of treatment is to get rid of the inflammation. Many types of medicine can reduce inflammation, including anti-inflammatory drugs such as sulfasalazine (brand name: Azulfidine), corticosteroids such as prednisone, and immune system suppressors such as azathioprine (brand name: Imuran) and mercaptopurine (brand name: Purinethol). An antibiotic, such as metronidazole (brand name: Flagyl), may also be helpful for killing germs in the intestines, especially if you have Crohn's disease.

To help treat your symptoms, your doctor may recommend anti-diarrheals, laxatives, pain relievers or other over-the-counter (OTC) drugs. It is important to talk to your doctor before taking any OTC medicine on your own. Your body may not be able to handle the effects of medicine. If you have severe symptoms, such as diarrhea, fever or vomiting, you may need to go to the hospital to be treated with special fluids and medicines that must be given intravenously (in your veins).

If your ulcerative colitis becomes so severe that it can't be helped by medicines, it may be necessary to remove part or all of your colon surgically. Crohn's disease usually isn't helped with surgery.
