Tiger Rag

"Tiger Rag" has a rather sketchy history. Both "Jelly Roll" Morton and Nick LaRocca [of the Original Dixieland Jass Band] claimed to have originated it, and the source material was supposedly an old French Quadrille played in New Orleans. The tune went on to be an enormous hit, when published under LaRocca's name. This video was taken at a recording session in Ferbruary 2009. The piano is a 2-year-old 8'11" Steinway D, and the venue is the Dr. Steel Recital hall at UPEI, in Charlottetown PE. and this very track is from an eventually-to-be-completed album of JRM piano solos. Keep an eye out for future updates!

The band consisted of five white musicians who had previously played in the Papa Jack Laine bands, a diverse and racially integrated collection of musicians who played for parades,
