This is another gorgeous example of Whiteman's talent as an extremely skilful orchestrator. This record which I'm presenting thanks to a YouTube friend was made for Victor in 1927. Vocals are sung by the King's Men.

This is the other extreme of the artistic spectrum. Whiteman's incredibly rich orchestration could not have been a stronger contrast to Carmichael's own intimistic piano solo version apparently influenced by impressionist classical music , but since this tune is a favorite among Carmichael's compositions, I could not resist uploading this unforgettable performance as well. Record was made for Victor in 1934. Vocals are sung by the King's Men Ken Darby, Bud Lynn, Rad Robinso...

Dana Suesse 1909 1987 playing her own composition Blue Moonlight with the Paul Whiteman Concert Orch. for Victor in 1934. Suesse was a classically trained pianist/composer from Missouri who became an overnight sensation with some popular songs such as You Oughta Be In Pictures, My Silent Love and The Night is Young and You're So Beautiful. She seemed to drift out of fashion in the 1930's, although she subsequently composed many serious works. Highly thought of by many pundits.

By special request, I upload this particular version of a lovely song composed by Sigler, Goodhart and Hoffman. As for the orchestra, there is hardly any reason to present one of the most famous bandleaders who left us so many gorgeous recordings. As for this recording, it was waxed for Victor on August 18th, 1934. Vocal by Peggy Healy.

Mildred Bailey "When It's Sleepy Time Down South" 1932 Stept & Powers sheet music. This song was performed by Miss Mildred Bailey "That Princess of Rhythm" with the Paul Whiteman Orchestra. An early jazz singer with a sweet voice that belied her plump physique, Mildred Bailey balanced a good deal of popular success with a hot jazz slanted career that saw her billed as Mrs. Swing her husband, Red Norvo, was Mr. Swing . Born Mildred Rinker in Washington state in 1907,...

During the l920's, Ray Miller was a well known, highly respected bandleader whose orchestra made many recordings for various companies; it was featured on the air for most of that decade. Like Paul Whiteman, Ted Lewis and a few others he usually had top jazz musicians amongst his personnel. Despite all this very little is known about Ray Miller himself. His musical career started in 1916 when he was a singing waiter at the Casino Gardens in Chicago. This restaurant happened to be the place ...

Where else could you get to see a rehearsal of Billy Rose's "Jumbo" but here on youtube? Although the clip is short, one can get a glimpse of impresario Billy Rose, director John Murray Anderson, circus artiste Barbette and America's own Jimmy Durante. The camera never focuses on the Paul Whiteman Orchestra, which featured vocalist Bob Lawrence, but you can hear him singing. The songs were by Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart, including "The Most Beautiful Girl in the Worl...
