Hurricane Ike passed well to the south of the Florida penninsula, but its outer bands brought some strong winds and large waves to the Florida Keys.My friends tell me that in the early morning hours of the 9th, before and right around sunset, the wind gusts reached hurricane force for periods of times as the first bands of Ike passed over. By the time I got there that after noon, the winds were not as extreme, but they were very consistent.Winds gusted to maybe 45mph while I was down there, and
