Mellisa is one of Molson Fund a Champion athlete recipient.

Mellisa's World Cup season leading up to the 2006 Olympic Winter Games redefined the term "hot streak". After lengthy discussions with her coach during the off-season, and mapping out a new competitive strategy, the 27-year-old from Eckville, Alberta, kicked off the pivotal season by winning her first World Cup in 10 years of racing, and became the first athlete in the history of the sport to never finish out of the top three for the rest of the year.

Mellisa headed to Torino for the 2006 Olympic Winter Games, where she slid to a historic bronze-medal finish, after winning the Overall World Cup title. Gutsy, courageous and determined, Mellisa is proud of this huge accomplishment, but her competitive goals are not yet achieved. Mellisa is poised to win gold at home in 2010. Beijing is China's capital and it's also the location of the 2008 Olympics. The Temple of Heaven is one of Beijing's most well known tourist destinations. The Hall of Prayer for Good harvests is where the emperor prayed for a good farming season. This wooden building is over 120 ft high. It's supported by 28 pillars, which represent the constellations, the 4 seasons and 12 months of the year.

The Summer Place was the private retreat of emperors and empresses for centuries. It has a large manmade lake, temples and gardens.

China exports massive amounts of goods, which are sold in the west. And if you are wondering, yes they do have Wal-marts in China.

GIANT PANDAS are mammals which can weigh over 200 lbs and eat almost 50 pounds of bamboo per day. They are white and have black arms, legs, and ears, and black beneath their eyes.

In the museum there is an incredible display of chariots and horses. These were made of silver, gold and bronze.

XIAN is a treasure trove of key historical sites such as The Big Wild Goose Pagoda. This stored valuable Buddhist writings, which were brought from India by a monk. He also wrote about his journey along the Silk Road, the legendary trading route between China, Europe and the Mideast. Many cities and temples had both drum and bell towers and the drums and bells rang throughout the day.

Tea has been an important part of Chinese life since at least the 8th century. There was an elaborate ceremony when it was served.

One of the most stunning sites in Tibet is the Potala Palace, which stands majestically on a hillside. This was the former home of the fourteenth Dali Lama.

GUILIN has bee called the most beautiful part of china. This is one of the top meccas for tourists. It's an exotic landscape of limestone hills covered in lush vegetation, which rise above a flat plain.

The 2010 Winter Olympics, officially known as the XXI Olympic Winter Games or the 21st Winter Olympics, will be held February 12-28, 2010 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, with some events held in the resort town of Whistler nearby. Both the Olympic and Paralympic Games are being organized by the Vancouver Organizing Committee (VANOC). The 2010 Winter Olympics will be the third Olympics hosted by Canada, and the first by the province of British Columbia. Previously, Canada was home to the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal and the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary. These will also be the first games to be held in an NHL market since the league allowed its players to participate starting at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan. Following Olympic tradition, then Vancouver mayor Sam Sullivan received the Olympic flag during the closing ceremony of the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy. The flag was raised on February 28, 2006, in a special ceremony, and will be on display at Vancouver City Hall until the Olympic opening ceremony. The event will be officially opened by Governor General Micha??lle Jean.

Carla Bruni, France's First Lady, Wife of President Nicolas Sark

It has been claimed that Carla Bruni was involved with Louis Bertignac, Mick Jagger Eric Clapton, Donald Trump, Léos Carax, Charles Berling, Arno Klarsfeld, Vincent Perez and former French Prime Minister Laurent Fabius.

She has said she is easily "bored with monogamy", and "Love lasts a long time, but burning desire - two to three weeks".

In 1997, Bruni quit the world of fashion, to devote herself to music. She sent her lyrics to Julien Clerc in 1999, based on which he composed seven tracks on his 2000 album Si j'étais elle. She is a huge success, and one of the top music stars in France.

In 2002, her debut album Quelqu'un m'a dit, produced by ex-lover Louis Bertignac, was released in Europe with major success in Francophone countries. Three songs from the album appear in Hans Canosa's 2005 American film Conversations with Other Women. The song "Le plus beau du quartier" was used in H&M's Christmas 2006 commercial.

In 2005, she was a guest in Louis Bertignac's return album on the song Les frôleuses which they sang together as a duet.

In 2006, Bruni recorded "Those Little Things" an English-language translation of the Serge Gainsbourg song "Ces Petits Riens", for the tribute album Monsieur Gainsbourg Revisited. She participated in the opening ceremony of the 2006 Winter Olympics, in a parade section paying tribute to the Italian flag.

Her second album, No Promises containing poems by Yeats, Emily Dickinson, Auden, Dorothy Parker, Walter de la Mare, and Christina Rosetti, set to music, was released in January 2007. Ranked 3.60 / 5 | 7056 views | 0 comments

David Letterman ex-lover Stephanie Birkitt in Know Your Current Events skit

Stephanie Birkitt (also goes by stage names Vicky, Monty, Smitty and Gunther) in a Know Your Current Events skit on the Late Show. This appearance is estimated to be around mid-October, 2005, based on a reference during the skit to Clinton's 30th wedding anniversary. Birkitt made appearances from 2002 to 2005. She is still employed by World Wide Pants as a lawyer. Background info Birkitt started as an intern on the show during spring 1996. After graduation, she worked as a page for CBS News, 48 Hours, and the Late Show, eventually becoming an associate producer on segments for correspondent Erin Moriarty. Deciding she wasn't "much of a news hound", she was hired as a Letterman office worker, helping to handle his charities and his Indy car racing team. Working with Letterman in this capacity led to her first appearances on The Late Show, in which Letterman would call her in her office during the show. These phone calls eventually led to her interviewing Survivor castoffs, asking them "Did you see or touch any monkeys?" much to the feigned displeasure of Letterman. Birkitt appeared during the "CBS Mailbag" segment numerous times donning costumes, sometimes related to a specific ongoing festival or event. As herself, she gave on-air reports from the sites of the Winter Olympics in 2002 and in 2006. In addition to her appearances on the Late Show With David Letterman, Birkitt co-hosts The Tony Mendez Show on the Late Show website. Source: Wikipedia

The Olympic Logo History

Modern Olympics
After the initial success, the Olympics struggled. The celebrations in Paris (1900) and St. Louis (1904) were overshadowed by the World's Fair exhibitions in which they were included. The 1906 Intercalated Games (so-called because they were the second games held within the IIIrd Olympiad) were held in Athens, as the first of an alternating series of Athens-held Olympics. Although originally the IOC recognised and supported these games, they are currently not recognised by the IOC as Olympic Games, which has given rise to the explanation that they were intended to mark the 10th anniversary of the modern Olympics. The 1906 Games again attracted a broad international field of participants—in 1904, 80% had been American—and great public interest, thereby marking the beginning of a rise in popularity and size of the Games.

From the 241 participants from 14 nations in 1896, the Games grew to nearly 11,100 competitors from 202 countries at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. The number of competitors at the Winter Olympics is much smaller than at the Summer Games; at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin Italy, 2,633 athletes from 80 countries competed in 84 events.

The Olympic Games are one of the world's largest media events. In Sydney in 2000, there were over 16,000 broadcasters and journalists, and an estimated 3.8 billion viewers watched the games on television

An Olympics star has died in an horrific 90mph luge accident at the winter games.

Nodar Kumaritashvili

Georgian hopeful Nodar Kumaritashvili flew off the track and into a metal pole in Whistler, Canada.

Medics administered CPR at the scene following the second of two training runs.

Kumaritashvili was then placed on a stretcher with blood pouring from his head and taken away in an ambulance.

An International Olympic Committee official confirmed tonight that the luger had died.

Officials console each other

Witnesses told how the 21-year-old crashed at one of the fastest points near the bottom of the track on the final 270-degree turn.

He hit both sides of the wall before being hurled over the top and smashing into the pole at the side of the track

Earlier Italian Armin Zoeggler, the 2002 and 2006 gold medalist, also crashed but was not badly injured.

On Wednesday there were several accidents during women's luge training runs.

Romania's Violeta Stramaturaru was knocked unconscious for a few minutes and taken to hospital.

The track is widely-regarded as one of the most dangerous in the sport. Ranked 2.76 / 5 | 30823 views | 0 comments

Madame Sarkozy
Carla Bruni Tedeschi, known as Carla Bruni (born 23 December 1967) is an Italian songwriter, singer and model, and wife of French President Nicolas Sarkozy.

Heiress to the Italian tire manufacturing company CEAT founded in the 1920s by her grandfather Virginio Bruni Tedeschi and sold by her stepfather Alberto in the 1970s to Pirelli (the brand lives on via its Indian subsidiary, founded in 1958),[1] she was born in Turin, Italy. The family moved to France in 1973, reportedly to escape the threat of kidnapping by the Red Brigades, a Marxist-Leninist terrorist group active in Italy in the 1970s. Carla grew up in France from five and attended boarding school in Switzerland. She returned to Paris to study art and architecture, but left school at 19 to become a model.

Bruni signed with City Models at 19. Paul Marciano, president and creative director of Guess? Inc., came across her picture among composite cards of aspiring models and chose her to model with Estelle Lefébure in campaigns for Guess? jeans. Bruni subsequently worked for designers and fashion houses such as Christian Dior, Paco Rabanne, Sonia Rykiel, Christian Lacroix, Karl Lagerfeld, John Galliano, Yves Saint-Laurent, Chanel and Versace.[3] By the 1990s, Bruni was among the 20 highest-paid fashion models, earning $7.5 million a year. While modeling, Bruni dated Eric Clapton, Mick Jagger and Donald Trump.[4] On Friday, 11 April 2008, it was confirmed that a 1993 nude photograph of Bruni had been auctioned for US$91,000 (£46,098) - more than 20 times the expected price.[5]

[edit] Music
In 1997, Bruni quit the world of fashion to devote herself to music. She sent her lyrics to Julien Clerc in 1999, based on which he composed seven tracks on his 2000 album Si j'étais elle.

In 2002, her debut album Quelqu'un m'a dit, produced by ex-lover Louis Bertignac, was released in Europe with success in Francophone countries.[6] Three songs from the album appear in Hans Canosa's 2005 American film Conversations with Other Women. The song "Le plus beau du quartier" was used in H&M's Christmas 2006 commercial.

In 2005, she was a guest in Louis Bertignac's return album on the song Les frôleuses which they sang as a duet.

In 2006, Bruni recorded "Those Little Things" an English-language translation of the Serge Gainsbourg song "Ces Petits Riens", for the tribute album Monsieur Gainsbourg Revisited. She participated in the opening ceremony of the 2006 Winter Olympics in a parade paying tribute to the Italian flag.

Her second album, No Promises containing poems by Yeats, Emily Dickinson, Auden, Dorothy Parker, Walter de la Mare, and Christina Rosetti, set to music, was released in January 2007.

Her albums are released by the French independent record label Naïve, which releases artists such as Vinicius Cantuaria and Aline de Lima.

A new Madame Sarkozy?

Very reliable sources inform me that President Nicolas Sarkozy plans to marry top-model-turned-singer Carla Bruni.

The two have been spotted in tête-à -têtes over the past month, and made a first public splash at EuroDisney over the weekend. Ms. Bruni bears an uncanny resemblance to the recent Madame Sarkozy. And I don't mean his mother.
No word yet on when he plans to officially pop the question, if he hasn't done so already. Perhaps this Sunday, her 40th birthday?
Look for all the details at the Paris newsstands tomorrow. Ranked 3.33 / 5 | 4218 views | 0 comments
