St Louis Blues Rollini Adrian 1937 Richard Himber had one of the top "sweet" dancebands of the 1930s. Previously, he was first violinist for Rudy Vallee's Connecticut Yankees, and it was Vallee who encouraged and financed a gift, not a loan Himber's first orchestra. Himber's orchestra usually played in the most prestigious hotels and ballrooms and had access to the topflight musicians of his era for recordings, if not for routine, nightly performances. Artie Shaw, To...

When I saw and listened to this clip after not having experienced it for quite a while I must consider this as one of my favourite pieces of Jazz. The creativity and interplay between these superb stars is at the highest standard. This clip goes for sure into my favourites. Listen to the exchange chorusses between trumpeter Yank Lawson and trombonist George Masso and then again bet...

This is the greatest thrid period comeback in the history of the NHL. The blues trailed 5 0 with 15:10 remaining in he game, and came back to score 5 goals to force overtime, and would then score 17 seconds into OT. Only three times has a team come back from being behind 5 goals in the third period. Al Macinnis, who scored the Blues 3rd goal in this game, also played on the Flames in 1989 when they did the same thing, coming back from being down 5 0 in 15:44 and winning in Overtime. The other

Frank Noonan solo performance of St. Louis Blues by W. C. Handy 1914 . The song gained such popularity that it inspired the dance step the "Foxtrot". It remains a fundamental part of jazz musicians' repertoire. It was also one of the first blues songs to succeed as a pop song; it has been performed by numerous musicians of all styles from Louis Armstrong and Bessie Smith to Glenn Miller and the Boston Pops Orchestra. It has been called "the jazzman's Hamlet". The v...

St Louis Blues Hines Earl 1949 During a performance of a Louis Armstrong concert somewhere in France in 1949 pianist Earl "Fatha" Hines is being featured in the St. Louis Blues. Backing him up are Arvell Shaw on bass and Cozy Cole on drums. Hines played a single tremble on same notes with the right hand while his left hand would play through the necessary chord changes. In later years this became one of his trade marks. Author: boberwigTags: jazz swing piano Posted: 05 February 2007R

St. Louis Blues Bob Cats 1986 At the fifth annual Cork Festival in 1986 we see a performance by the Bob Cats. I guess bassist Bob Haggart as one of the original Bob Cats members from the mid thirties could claim that name for this engagement. The only other original is saxophonist Eddie Miller. Others in the band are Yank Lawson trumpet, Abe Most clarinet, Bob Havens trombone, Lou Stein piano, Marty Gross guitar and Nick Fatool drums These seniors of jazz just play through the standard St Lo
